At The Finish Line…Where Only the Truth Matters

Must read

Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby plays against the Columbus Blue Jackets during Game 4 of a first-round NHL playoff hockey series Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in Columbus, Ohio. Heavily favored to take care of the upstart Columbus Blue Jackets in short order, the Penguins are home for Game 5 on Saturday night with the series knotted at two partly because they haven't done enough dirty work, their stars included. •    There are two things I can tell you about hockey.  #1 – I don’t know anything about it.  Don’t laugh.  You don’t either.  And #2 – If they don’t wake up soon and smell the Crosby . . . I mean coffee, nobody’s gonna care what anybody knows about them.

•    For those of you that don’t have the good fortune or for that matter the good sense . . . (Remember, only the truth matters) to read my weekly sports column “Overtime,” you weren’t able to keep up with my March Madness predictions.  So here’s what you missed.  I told the world a month ago that Kentucky would fall before the championship . . . done!  Then I hit the globe again with Duke sending Wisconsin back to the farm.  Done and done!!!  You really need to expand your reading format.  I’m just sayin.

•    Josh Harrison, the Pirates multi-talented third baseman, not to be confused with Pittsburgh Steelers ageless wonder-beast linebacker James Harrison . . . yeah, some of you do that . . . finally got the payday he deserves.  Management dumped $27.3 million in his lap yesterday.  Well deserved and well played.

•    My guess and my hope is that Tiger not only makes “the cut” at the Masters, but makes all haters eat their words.  I am going to suggest to you that he wouldn’t come to play if he wasn’t healthy.  It’s just a matter of shaking that rust off.  Of course I’ve said for sometime if he brought back the “20” or so mistresses, he could really get his swing back, but . . . oh, ok, I’m the bad guy.  You know you’ve been thinking it.  You just wanted me to say it!

•    Shadyside Academy standout Dennis Briggs who landed a full scholarship to Pitt as a running back has joined the defensive backfield to add some strength, competition and some “stop the run” hard hitting.  No surprise here.  Hard hitting runs in the family.  The fact that he’s my cousin is coincidental!

•    Next to the last shout-out for ya.  The greatest corner back in NFL history, Mel Blount, “The Rule Changer” and other members of the greatest team in NFL history will settle in at the fabulous Blue Line Grille for Pittsburgh Steeler Legends Reunion II, Saturday, April 18th, 5:00-6:00 p.m. VIP Reception $50 – 6:00-9:00 p.m. General Admission $25, 9:00-12:00 midnight Sly Jock After Party $15 at the door.  Staring Robin Cole, Louis Lipps, Randy Grossman, Craig Bingham, Andy Russell, J.T. Thomas and Dwayne Woodruff, with special guest B.B. Flenory, Myron Brown, Vaughn Rivers, Brice Flenory and Master Jacquet Bazemore, karate champion.  Cash bar, cash kitchen, live auction, autographs and photographs.  For information call (412) 628-4856.
