PITTSBURGH (AP) – The city of Pittsburgh and several sponsors have stepped up to give fans who can’t get tickets a way to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins’ home Stanley Cup playoff games.
The team had been hosting a big screen outside its arena since 2007, but can’t this year because construction on the former Civic Arena site near their new home, the Consol Energy Center, didn’t leave enough room.
But Mayor Bill Peduto says the “watch parties” are one of his favorite springtime traditions. So, the Penguins Playoff Big Screen will be erected at various spots downtown for home playoff games in Round 1.
The screen will be in Market Square on Monday night and PPG Place for Wednesday’s game.
The Penguins, First Niagara Bank, iHeartMedia, the Market Square Merchants Association and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership are sponsoring the events.
