Atlanta-area sheriff under investigation for shooting woman at model home

victor hillGWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A female real estate agent is in critical condition after being shot by Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill inside a suburban Atlanta model home and is allegedly refusing to cooperate with the investigation, the media is reporting.
Authorities say the shooting happened along Britt Trail Drive in the northern Atlanta suburb of Lawrenceville in Gwinnett County around 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
Gwinnett County is located immediately north of Atlanta while Clayton County is just south of the city.
According to police, Hill refused to answer any of their questions.
According to FOX 5, the sheriff was familiar with the woman who worked for the new subdivision. However, there is no word as to what precipitated the violent episode or why Hill was inside the home at the time of the shooting. He was off-duty at the time.
The unknown woman is in critical condition at the Gwinnett Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, 11 Alive reported.
At the time of this report, authorities have called the shooting accidental. Investigators say two other people, potential buyers, were inside the home when the shooting took place. No charges have been filed but the investigation is ongoing. The media reported that, because Hill is a sheriff, he was not detained and allowed to leave the scene.
Hill was re-elected as sheriff in 2012 despite the specter of 37 corruption charges hovering over his head. He was later acquitted of all the charges and has remained below the radar until now, granting interviews very infrequently.
