Atlanta Department of Corrections Commemorates National Correctional Officers Week

ATLANTA — Atlanta’s Department of Corrections (DOC) announced today that it will commemorate National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, Monday, May 4 through Friday, May 8, 2015, with a weeklong celebration.
National Correctional Officers and Employees Week pays tribute to the contributions of correctional officers, nurses and personnel who work in jails, prisons and community corrections across the country.
“The services provided by the Department of Corrections are vital to the community. The City of Atlanta has one of the best facilities in the country thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff to provide exemplary customer service in a safe and secure correctional environment,” said DOC Chief Patrick Labat. “National Correctional Officers and Employees week gives us a platform to not only pay tribute to our officers, nurses and employees, both past and present, for the critical role they play in public safety, but also to simply enjoy the camaraderie among our staff with fun, team-building activities.”

The Department of Corrections weeklong observance includes a memorial prayer service in honor of fallen officers, a retirees’ luncheon, team-building activities and a health fair for City of Atlanta employees.
The week will culminate with award ceremonies which will included the presentation of the 2015 Correctional Officer of the Year award presented by Chief Patrick Labat.
