A concrete mixing truck suddenly overturned on Monday afternoon on Hemphill Ave. and 14th St. and crushed two cars beside it, including one with former Atlanta Mayor and UN Ambassador Andrew Young.
Atlanta Police said Young was not seriously injured and could be seen walking to an ambulance as a precaution.
Police said he was not transported by ambulance, but did get a ride to the emergency room at Emory University Hospital Midtown.
A spokesman told Fox 5: “He was not driving and was able to walk away from the accident. He was treated at the scene and went to the hospital as a precaution. He is doing well and is in good spirits. We appreciate the calls and well wishes.”
Young later told Channel 2 Action News by phone that “it was not my time (to go). I have a lot of things that I want to do before it’s my time.”
Police said another man in the other crushed car did have to be transported by ambulance to the hospital with head and hand injuries.
Police cited the driver of the concrete mixing truck with disobeying a traffic control device and driving too fast for the conditions.
