Family and friends of beloved community member Bernard Moore are scheduled to appear at City Hall on Tuesday afternoon seeking redress after Moore was killed by an alleged speeding police cruiser on the city's south side more than two months ago.
The officer, who was not responding to any emergency, has not been charged with any crime connected to Moore's death.
Community activists along with Moore's family attorneys from Davis Bozeman Law will address the City of Atlanta Public Safety Committee at 3:00 pm at Atlanta City Hall.
Moore, a grandfather and well-liked member of the community, was killed when a police squad car driven by Atlanta police officer Christopher Blaise struck him as Moore tried to cross the street to return to his job. According to the family's attorneys, Blaise was speeding without emergency lights or sirens down Metropolitan Avenue on March 6, 2015.
"Officer Blaise has not been arrested nor has he apologized to this family. No person should be able to speed through a neighborhoodand kill a man without any consequences.This is about more than Bernard Moore, this is about the safety of all communities that deserve the respect of police within their communities,” Rob Bozeman,a managing partner at Davis Bozeman Law Firm.
Community activists and the family request the community join them at the public safety meeting in demanding justice for Mr. Moore.
