PITTSBURGH (AP) _ The former boyfriend of a woman found slain along with her grandmother in western Pennsylvania has been taken into custody in New Jersey after being sought on unrelated assault charges involving the victim.
Officials said 25-year-old Cesar Mazza was taken into custody at about 6:30 p.m. Friday by a federal-state task force as he left a home in Newark.
Mazza was arrested on three Allegheny County bench warrants, including two charging him with failure to appear at a hearing on charges that he assaulted 19-year-old Tionna Banks last fall.
Banks had obtained protection-from-abuse orders against Mazza, saying he threatened to kill her.
She and her 72-year-old grandmother, Valorie Crumpton, were found slain May 7 in a home in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood. No one has been charged in the slayings.
Homicide detectives have traveled to New Jersey to interview him, according to police spokesperson Sonya Toler.
