Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Walmart provide backpacks to area students

GIVING OUT BACKPACKS—Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. brought its “AKA ONE MILLION BACKPACKS” service project to Pittsburgh. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority along with Walmart collected nearly 5,000 backpacks and schools supplies to be presented to area school children.  The sorority’s national goal is to provide one million school children with backpacks and school supplies over a four-year period. The local event was held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, Great Lakes Regional Director Toni S. Kendrick, and representatives of local student recipients participated.
