The Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club announced today that it has decided not to participate as planned in Sunday’s Pittsburgh Pride March. Barbara Grover, Chair of the Group’s Executive Committee said:  “Although the Executive Committee and members of the Allegheny Group of Sierra Club are pleased that Iggy Azalea has opted out of performing at the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh’s Pride Fest, we have, nevertheless and reluctantly, decided to withdraw from the Pride March because we are aware that many in the LGBTQIA community, and especially persons of color, still have unresolved issues with the Delta Foundation. “
We at the Sierra Club are sensitive to this because, as our own organization strives to become more diverse and inclusive, we are grappling with similar issues ourselves.  We need to better address the serious issues faced diverse groups of people, including environmental issues such as very damaging air pollution, water pollution, and potentially damaging workplace environments.
Local Sierra Club members had very much been looking forward to participating for the first time in the Pittsburgh Pride March.  We are encouraging our membership to participate in activities being set up by Roots Pride Pittsburgh, and we are looking forward to supporting the entire LGBTQIA community in Pittsburgh.
The Sierra Club is America’s oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with the motto: Explore, Enjoy, and Protect the Planet.
