Atlanta Dream’s Tiffany Hayes, Aneika Henry to miss 5 games apiece

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Dream announced following today’s game against the Connecticut Sun that guard Tiffany Hayes and forward/center Aneika Henry (above) will miss the next five games to compete at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan. The duo, who will compete in a 3-on-3 basketball competition for the host country after gaining Azerbaijani citizenship, will be temporarily suspended for the duration of their absence.
The European Games is an international multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe. The inaugural European Games began June 12 and run through June 28, with the 3-on-3 tournament taking place from June 23-26. More than 6,000 athletes from 50 NOCs are competing in 20 sports at the Games, with qualifying spots for next summer’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro determined in some events.
Hayes and Henry will miss home games against Indiana (June 16), Chicago (June 19), New York (June 21) and Washington (June 26), as well as a road contest June 24 at Chicago. They will return to action when the Dream hosts Seattle on July 5.
Through the team’s first five games, Hayes is averaging 12.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, while Henry is averaging 3.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and  1.2 blocks for the Dream (2-3).
The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream is in its eighth season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Dream plays its home games at Philips Arena, with the next home game slated for June 16 at Noon ET vs. the Indiana Fever. The Dream has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
