COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Beloved former news anchor Amanda Davis was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in suburban Atlanta this past weekend, her second such incident in the last three years and third overall.
The former Fox 5 Atlanta anchor was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. near Cumberland Parkway on the Cobb County side of Atlanta. She was set to make her comeback to television CBS46, albeit in a commentary role, less than 24 hours before she was busted. She was released five hours later on $1,650 bond.
Davis, 59, was a 26-year veteran of Fox 5 before she retired in 2013 following a 2012 arrested for DUI.
In an interview with V-103’s Maria Boynton less than a month ago, Davis characterized that traumatizing 2012 DUI bust as “awful.” She was also charged with the car crash that injured a man after she drove the wrong way on Piedmont Avenue in Midtown Atlanta, though she was later found not guilty in court. She relayed the fact that she had spiraled into a deep depression that spurred the drinking.
Despite being on the mend and getting the support of industry colleagues, Davis reverted back to an old behavior and now has been charged with her third DUI bust, the AJC reports.
In a statement from local TV today on CBS46’s Website indicates that she has requested a “temporary leave.”
“For personal reasons, Amanda Davis has requested temporary leave from the ‘Just a Minute’ project. We at CBS46 respect her decision.”
