Nearly 50 people were in attendance during last week’s McKeesport Downtown Business Authority meeting held at the Palisades Event Center, next to the McKee’s Point Marina. Both are located at the edge of the Monongahela River. Participants consisted of a mix of MDBA members, business owners, potential entrepreneurs and City of McKeesport officials, including Mayor Michael Cherepko.
“There are a lot of things going on in McKeesport,” said Cherepko. “We want to provide resources for new businesses, but we are also committed to the old businesses. We can’t forget the older businesses and want you to know that we are here for you.”
A former educator and mayor since 2012, Cherepko mentioned some of the positive business activity occurring in McKeesport, a city he said he loves and has passion for. He pointed out that within the last four years, Lysle Boulevard and East Fifth Avenue have changed. “Eat’n Park has reinvested by expanding and the Dollar General, a discount retail store, has located in the former Kentucky Fried Chicken location.” East Fifth Avenue, he said, now has a new Speedway Gas Station and Dollar Store, and the Dunkin Donut and car wash have done site improvements.
