WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) _ Police believe a shot that injured a woman at a suburban Pittsburgh amusement park came from outside the park, perhaps from someone nearby celebrating the Fourth of July.
Allegheny County police say the 26-year-old woman was in stable condition after being struck in the upper chest near her shoulder just after 10 p.m. Saturday at Kennywood Park in West Mifflin.
Police said there’s no indication the shot was fired within the park, and they don’t believe the woman or anyone around her was targeted. Investigators say no witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and surveillance footage doesn’t show anyone shooting.
Kennywood spokesman Chris Salerno says the park was closing after a fireworks show and most patrons had already left. He called the shooting “a freak accident.”
