Thursday Night Icon Series
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra presents the Thursday Night Icon Series: Johnny Mathis at 7:30 p.m. at Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Cultural District. Music legend Johnny Mathis will be in the ’Burgh for one-night only to perform favorites such as “Wonderful, Wonderful,” “Chances Are,” “Misty” and more. He celebrates his 59th year in the music industry and Columbia Records’ longest-running artist. Mathis is the second artist to take part in the four-show series. Jazz at Andys
Andys Wine Bar at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel presents Jazz at Andys from 5-7:30 p.m. at 510 Market St., Downtown. Every Friday night in May, DJ Malls will be spinning the vinyl. Dance Africa Pittsburgh
The Legacy Arts Project and the Kelly Strayhorn Theater presents Dance Africa Pittsburgh 2015 at 8 p.m. at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. The two-day event, which runs through July 17-18, will feature performances from the Kulu Mele African Dance & Drum Ensemble along with youth and adults of the Balafon West African Dance Ensemble and the Legacy Arts Project’s Dance Ensemble. Riverview Jazz
Citiparks presents the Riverview Jazz Series from 7-8:30 p.m. at Riverview Park, North Side. Each Saturday, guests can beat the summer heat with the cool sounds of some of Pittsburgh’s best jazz musicians. The featured musician will be Thomas Wendt. The concerts are free. Black Arts Festival
Harambee Ujima Arts and Culture Association presents the Black Arts Festival from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. at Kelly Street, Homewood. The two-day festival, which runs July 18-19, will include performances by OneHood, the Flow Band, CUE and more. Every Wednesday, through Sept. 16, a series of free jazz concerts will be held featuring icon Roger Humphries and his band, RH Factor. Performances are free, open to the public and BYOB.
