PITTSBURGH (AP) _ A star football player at the University of Pittsburgh is entering a program designed for nonviolent, first-time offenders after being charged with driving under the influence.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Friday (https://bit.ly/1g9kNxM ) that wide receiver Tyler Boyd will be on probation for a year and his driver’s license will be suspended for three months.
His lawyer says Boyd’s taken responsibility and hopefully has learned from the incident.
Police in Jefferson Hills say they smelled alcohol after pulling him over for an alleged driving infraction after 2 a.m. on June 12.
Authorities say tests that haven’t been released showed a level of alcohol below the state’ legal limit. He was charged despite that, because he’s 20 years old, which is too young to drink in Pennsylvania.
Other charges were dismissed.
