PITTSBURGH (AP) _ A man wanted for skipping two trials in western Pennsylvania _ and wanted by Los Angeles authorities for a robbery there _ was arrested after he ran into a house and hid, prompting a SWAT response.

Derrick Ingram, 45, of Homestead, was arraigned Thursday on new charges including burglary and reckless endangerment, for which he’ll face a preliminary hearing Aug. 13.

Ingram remained in the Allegheny County Jail because of the warrants issued when he failed to show for trials last month and the Los Angeles charges.

In one case, Ingram allegedly hit a police car and several other vehicles after he led police on a car chase after he and another person allegedly stole merchandise from a Family Dollar store in March. The other trial was for charges that he illegally possessed a gun and body armor last year. Ingram has a criminal record dating to 1992 and, as a convicted felon, can’t have guns.

It was because of the weapon and body armor charges that police decided to call in a SWAT team sometime after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after Ingram ducked into the residence, where he doesn’t live, police said in a criminal complaint.

County sheriff’s deputies had been searching for fugitives, including Ingram, when they saw city officers outside the building on an unrelated fight call. Once an informant told authorities that Ingram had ducked inside, police summoned the SWAT team after evacuating other residents and Ingram refused their calls to come out, police said.

Authorities also learned that Ingram was wanted on a robbery warrant out of Los Angeles. Police and the sheriff’s office didn’t have additional information on that warrant. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokeswoman who confirmed the warrant said she couldn’t release details.

Police fired gas canisters into the building and eventually sent in a K-9, which located Ingram in an upstairs crawl space. When he wouldn’t come out, the dog bit his right leg and right arm until he surrendered, police said.

Ingram was taken to a hospital for treatment of the bites before he was jailed and arraigned, police said.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Ingram on the new charges, which also include flight to avoid apprehension and resisting arrest.

His public defender on the earlier Allegheny County cases didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
