Jewelry in the Space Age
The Carnegie Museum of Natural History presents “Out of This World! Jewelry in the Space Age” at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Wertz Gallery, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. The fine jewelry exhibit brings together scientific fact and pop culture in a showcase of wearable and decorative arts related to outer space, space travel, the space age and the powerful influence these topics have had on human civilization. From Slavery to Freedom
The Senator John Heinz History Center and the Homewood Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh present the “From Slavery to Freedom” 2015 Film Series from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Homewood Library Auditorium, 7101 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. The series will feature the film, “Against the Odds: The Artists of the Harlem Renaissance.” It examines the outpouring of creativity in the visual arts by African Americans during the 1920s and 1930s, the period known as the Harlem Renaissance. It also presents items from the 1990 exhibition, “Against the Odds,” curated by the Newark Museum. This is a free event that is open to the public.
