Subway acted as it was shocked and horrified by the recent revelations that its former spokesperson, Jared Fogle, was involved in child pornography and engaged in sexual relations with underage children.
However, according to a former Subway franchisee, she notified the sandwich giant that Fogle had expressed on multiple occasions sexual interest in children seven years ago and that the sandwich chain did nothing, the Business Insider reports.
Cindy Mills, a subway franchise owner from 2006-12 in Pensacola, Fla., says that Fogle, the famous Subway’s pitchman for the past 15 years until his arrest by federal agents last month, called her daily and made highly-questionable adn perverted comments in early 2008 after they had met at a Subway function.
“He would just tell me he really liked them young,” Mills told the publication.
Mills was shocked that Fogle would actually admit he’d had sex with minors, child prostitutes as young as 9 years old in both Thailand, where sex laws are much more relaxed, and in the United States.
Business Insider also reported that Fogle, incredulously, tried to get her to sell herself for sex on Craigslist, according to her interview..
Mills claims she told Subway all of this seven years ago but that the company did not respond in any manner. She soon retained an attorney.
The company announced it has launched an internal probe to find out if executives were made aware of Fogle’s interest in children.
Subway did do one thing: they directed her to Jeff Moody, then CEO of SFAFT, and relayed Fogle’s disturbing behavior and words to her. But in the middle of giving her testimony, she said Moody broke off the conversation abruptly, saying: “Please don’t tell me any more.”
“He said, ‘Don’t worry, he has met someone. She is a teacher and he seems to love her very much, and we think she will help keep him grounded,’” Mills recalls.
Moody is no longer with Subway. He is now the CEO of Rita’s Italian Ice and he refused requests for an interview or respond to the woman’s accusations.
