PITTSBURGH, PA (Sept. 2, 2015) — Mayor William Peduto began a Senior Care Tour today, in which he and Citiparks Director Jim Griffin will meet with seniors citywide to hear about issues facing their communities. The tour, which started at the Glen Hazel Senior Community Center, coincides with September’s National Senior Center Month.

“I want to hear straight from seniors what they see and hear about their neighborhoods. And we want to find out what we can we do to improve their quality-of-life, and to improve senior facilities and programs,” Mayor Peduto said.

The Mayor and Director met Wednesday with 40 seniors at the Glen Hazel center. Topics included future plans for the center, youth violence and crime, educational and job opportunities for youth, redevelopment possibilities for vacant schools, public transportation routes, and how the redevelopment of the Almono site could impact Hazelwood.

The tour kicks off Senior Center Month in the city. Mayor Peduto will attend a Recognition Day for Senior Center Month at the North Side center September 16 from 11:30 to 12:30, before Bingo at 1 p.m. The 2015 Citiparks Healthy And Active Living Fall Senior Games will take place September 8-23 at various facilities throughout the area. Full details can be found on the Citiparks website.
