SNELLVILLE, Ga. — Two metro Atlanta brothers are in jail after being accused of trying to kill their parents and start a fire to cover up their crimes, Gwinnett County police officials told the media.
According to the police report, both parents are “seriously injured” after being stabbed several times and beaten in their home on Saturday.
Cameron Ervin, 22, and brother Christopher, 17, are being held in Gwinnett County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and arson. The parents are expected to survive their injuries and it may have been the quick thinking of the father that may have saved both their lives.
Zachary Ervin, who was stabbed several times, reportedly distracted the sons somehow, enabling the mother, Yvonne Ervin, to dial 911 and bring authorities storming over the home, Gwinnett County police spokesman Sgt. Rich Long said, according to the AJC.
In addition to the injuries, the officers on the scene said they detected a strong odor of natural gas inside the home evidence the brothers tried to start a fire.
Long told the media the motive for the brutal crime has not yet been revealed. However, a Gwinnett County magistrate judge wants to meet with each brother alone because they were “being held in separate isolation cells,” the newspaper reported.
