Lunch and Learn Series
    SEPT. 17— The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Lunch & Learn Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business Branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “How to Start a Child Care Business.” This session is for individuals who are interested in starting their own daycare or child care business. MWDBE Department Open House
    SEPT. 17—The Allegheny County Department of Minority, Women and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission will host the MWDBE Department Open House from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Two Chatham Center, 112 Washington Place, Hill District. Dollar Bank Vice President and credit counselor Judith Mason will give tips on how small business owners can use and protect their credit. Refreshments will be provided and registration is required. PowerBreakfast Meeting
    SEPT. 18—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its PowerBreakfast Meeting at 7:30 a.m. at One Oxford Centre. 301 Grant St., Downtown. The guest speaker will be Frank Coonelly, president of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The chamber’s corporate sponsor will update the audience on procurement opportunities within the Pirates’ organization. Exit Planning for Your Business Series
    SEPT. 18—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host the “Exit Planning for Your Business” Series from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This session will focus on the themes “Getting You and Your Business Ready, and Taxes and Valuation.” This is a two-part series that is designed for small business owners considering selling their business. Topics will include an overview of selling and buying atmosphere in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania; assessment of your readiness; transitional planning; goal setting and more. ALCOSAN Open House
    SEPT. 19—ALCOSAN will host an Open House from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 3300 Preble Ave., North Side. This is the region’s largest watershed and environmental festival. The daylong event will include a guided tour of the treatment plant and laboratory; a microbiology, watershed life presentation; hands-on activities and exhibits; and more. MyBusiness Startup
    SEPT. 21—Chatham University’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship will host its MyBusiness Startup program from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Chatham University, Woodland Road, Shadyside. This in an 11-week entrepreneurial training program that runs through November and is designed for women entrepreneurs in the early stages of starting their own businesses. Increase Your Profits
    SEPT. 22—The Duquesne University Small Business Development Center will host “Get Behind Numbers and Increase Your Profits: Understanding Financial Statements Workshop” from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This is a hands-on workshop that will provide a step-by-step approach to explaining the three financial statements, which are cash flow, profit and loss, and balance sheet. An expert from Wilke & Associates will offer clear examples for using these statements to make informed decisions, identify potential problems within a business and set realistic goals.
