Another senseless and devastating mass murder occurred on a community college in Oregon, once again shaking the nation to its core. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed offered his condolences to the families of the slain victims:
ATLANTA – Yesterday our nation was again brought to its knees as we learned of a brazen, vicious attack on innocent women and men on the Umpqua Community College campus in Roseburg, Oregon.
Nine people were killed in an act of hatred and intolerance. These nine individuals had families, friends, dreams and ambitions. They can never be replaced. Their loved ones will feel an ache in their hearts forever.
I give my deepest appreciation to the courageous first responders who saved lives and prevented further violence yesterday. Our centers of learning should be safe places for all; yet again the sanctity of our nation’s schools and colleges has been violated.
My heart grieves for the families and friends of the victims in Oregon, as well as the families and friends of all those killed by gun violence in recent years. I will hug my family closer today as we all reflect and look to God for guidance and support.
May God Bless the victims and their families.
