  • So by now you’ve heard about the Awards Banquet heard around the world. The 2nd Annual Pittsburgh City League High School All-Sports Hall of Fame Inductions was held this past Saturday in the face of a sell-out 400 plus crowd. If you want details, pick up this week’s New Pittsburgh Courier, but you need to know this, the presence of some of the City’s all time great legends was unbelievable to say the least . . . when you add to the spectacle the likes of Franco Harris, West Garnett, Mike Logan, Buddy Allie, Jennifer Bruce, Kevin Parker, Arnie Sewell, Darrell Porter and the great Rod Rutherford . . . man, then you got something special!
  • Speaking of special, we added Hollywood to the mix with the presence of Rayco “War” Saunders. The former world light heavyweight boxing champion joined the other legends at the Hall of Fame Awards. For those of you who thought “The War” was over, you’re sadly mistaken. Rayco is still knockin people out. His latest victim was mega star Jake Gyllenhaal in the block buster hit this summer, “South Paw.” If you don’t know by now, Saunders starred in the movie and knocked Jake out!!!
  • Good Lord people, how many times and how many ways can Hillary Clinton answer the same questions? Get over it Republicans . . . keep it movin!
  • Best not think about “throwing Vick to the dogs” just yet . . . smile . . . you may need him again down the road. When, not if the NFL scouts Landry Jones up close and if not when Ben gets hurt again. I’m just sayin!
  • Speaking of legends, the great Norm Nixon was in town a few days ago to join the other Duquesne University greats as they celebrated 100 years of basketball on the Bluff. Nixon, the former L.A. Laker joined B.B. Flenory, John Moore, Willie Somerset, Don Gambridge, Jeff Baldwin, Mike James and numerous other past players as they joined the current team, coaching staff and administration in the celebration. (Some of you may remember Norm Nixon lighting up the Connie Hawkins League behind the Homewood YMCA in 1977.)
  • I can’t speak enough about how great it was to meet back to back legends. Last year the super legendary Orin Richburg and this year the legendary Wesley Garnett. Man, it just doesn’t get any better than that!
  • Big, big, big thanks to Mr. Rod Doss, Mr. Ulish Carter and the New Pittsburgh Courier staff for a tremendous job well done on covering and showcasing the City League Hall of Fame Awards from beginning to end. HOO-RAH!!!
