ATLANTA — Despite a disappointing setback to open up the 2015-16 NBA season, a 106-94 defeat to the Detroit Pistons, the Atlanta Hawks drew a level of excitement that dwarfs their previous season’s numbers.
Coming off of a 60-22 record and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Atlanta Hawks’ 2015-16 season opener versus the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 27 saw a 100% surge in ratings on FOX Sports Southeast compared to the first game of the team’s 2014-15 campaign.
FOX Sports Southeast, the exclusive regional television home of the Atlanta Hawks, drew a household (HH) rating of 2.2 for Tuesday’s contest, doubling last year’s 1.1 HH rating for Atlanta’s season-opener at the Toronto Raptors. Last night’s television viewership numbers are the highest for a Hawks opening night game since recording a 2.8 HH rating against the New Jersey Nets in the strike-shortened 2011-12 season.
Atlanta will appear on FOX Sports Southeast 80 times this season, with Bob Rathbun calling the play-by-play action and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins serving as game analyst.
The Hawks return to action on Thursday, Oct. 29 at the New York Knicks at 8 p.m. on TNT before returning to Atlanta for an Oct. 30 matchup against the Charlotte Hornets on FOX Sports Southeast. Coverage will also be available on FOX Sports GO (FOXSportsGo.com), a free app that provides live streaming video of Hawks games through select programming distributors all season long, as well as other FOX Sports programming.
