Social media is still laughing out loud after legendary neo-soul singer Erykah Badu trounced Iggy Azalea while hosting the Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas.
As part of her opening monologue to start the show, Badu inserted much-maligned but successful rapper Azalea into her jokes — and social media went crazy.
“As you know, I am the queen of neo soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers: that I make them change gods and wear crochet hats, shoulder pads,” Badu, 44, said. “So they have banned me from all of the hip-hop awards with a sign saying ‘Erykah Badu, leave our rappers alone.’”
Erykah extended her joke by saying rappers were not welcome at the Soul Train Awards with Iggy as the exception, then pretended to take a call:
“Who is this? Iggy Azalea? Yeah, hey! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! You can come,” Badu yelled into her phone. “Because what you’re doing is definitely not rap.”
