On Oct. 12, at the Doubletree by Hilton, in Monroeville, the Pittsburgh Media Federation (PBMF) presented “Her: Dressed to Thrill,” an evening of spoken word performed by Karla Payne, great auction items and fabulous fashions courtesy of Allure, A Woman’s Touch, Catherina, Mock and Co., PaMar, Roberta Weissburg Leathers and Top Hat Tuxedo in Waterworks. The show was directed by style arbiter LaMont Jones Jr. and featured dynamic looks.

The models were Nadia, Serena, LaTonia, London, Robyn, Miyah, Josephine, Desiree, Kahari, and former Pittsburgh Steeler and Super Bowl champion Mike Logan.
“Her: Dressed to Thrill” benefited the Edna B. McKenzie Fellowship. Ervin Dyer, creator of the fellowship, took a moment during the program to share a portion of Dr. McKenzie’s story. “The fellowship is named in honor of a pioneering journalist for the Pittsburgh Courier, who was also a civil rights activist, college educator and the first Black woman to earn a doctorate in history at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. McKenzie died in 2005 at the age of 81.”

The Pittsburgh Black Media Federation’s members are journalists, public relations professionals, journalism professors, and college students studying journalism. Founded in 1973, PBMF is a nonprofit that advocates for newsroom diversity, hosts programs that recognize excellent media coverage of minority communities and trains young people to enter the media industry.
