‘Straight Outta Compton’ snubbed by Golden Globes; ‘Empire,’ Will Smith get nods

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — In the surprise snub of the movie awards season, the powerful and poignant music drama Straight Outta Compton was mysteriously left off the list of nominees for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.
The cast of the cultural phenomenon “Empire,” however, was given some love by the voters, as well as Will Smith, Angela Bassett and Idris Elba in the awards announcement at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
