The “First Fridays” events on Penn Avenue, in Garfield, have gained popularity over the past couple of years through its push to support local art in Pittsburgh.
For visual artist Takara Canty, the First Friday showcase in December meant so much more— for the first time, she hosted her very own showcase— one that’s she’s hoping will establish the tone for her career as an artist by familiarizing art enthusiasts with her work.
On Dec. 4, the Garfield native presented “Takara Canty’s One Woman Showcase: Heartbeats and Landscapes” at BOOM Concepts, a gallery on the 51st block of Penn Avenue.
“Providing a platform for Takara’s debut exhibition is an honor for BOOM Concepts,” said D.S. Kinsel, co-founder BOOM Concepts.
