Jackie Blakey-Tate, Presentation Ball general chairman and president of the Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter said, “poise, grace, class and style are just a few words that describe our Pearls.” Blakey-Tate also complemented the “Miss Pearl Essence” participants in their beautiful pink dresses and the “Pearls in Waiting” that were gorgeous in green.
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and family came out on Dec. 5 to support the bi-annual Precious to Cultured Pearls Presentation Ball held at Temple Rodef Shalom. “The debutantes worked for months to prepare for this evening. The young ladies, ranging from grades 1 through 12, actively participated in sessions designed to develop their character and individual leadership styles as well as strengthen their academic skills, enhance their civic and community service and prepare them for a fulfilled and bright future,” said Bridgette N. Cofield, president, Ivy Charitable Endowment of Pittsburgh Inc.
Harold Hayes, of KDKA-TV, and Brittny McGraw, of WPXI, were a delightful duo serving as master and mistress of ceremonies. Greer Reed and Mils James made a return appearance as Waltz and Promenade choreographers, while Madison Ware choreographed the Pearl Essence and Pearls in Waiting performances.
This year’s debutantes, as well as their waltz partners, were: Dominique Beckham and Michael Beckham; Imani Chisom and Arnie Chisom; Victoria Dorsett and Brian Burley; Tiana Fleming-Hogan and Howard Fleming; Genell Jasper and Loyal Jasper Jr.; Megan Johnson and Michael Frazier; Lana Macklin and Lenny Macklin; Samantha Moon and James Nicolas; Taylor Sill and Gary Sill Jr.; and Madison Ware with Darren McCormick.
