At the age of 29 when Chukky Okobi walked away from the National Football League in 2008 he knew he never wanted to be an employee again. Since then he has been an entrepreneur and involved in different aspects of the entertainment industry ranging from music to acting.
“While growing up I knew I wanted to be in the arena of entertaining a lot of people. A gladiator so to speak,” says Okobi. “At the age of seven I was clear that I wanted to be an athlete.” The son of a doctor and college professor and siblings working in the fields of medicine, education, IT and in the corporate world he says his parents tried to gear him toward the norm. “But my mother knew my mind was set.”
The Mansion at Maple Heights Bed and Breakfast, a turn-of-the century English Manor home built in 1903 is just one of his ventures. It is a project he credits providing him the opportunity to express his self, to create his own environment. “This lets me use my creative energy and puts me in charge of my own.”
