Book Release/Stage Reading
    FEB. 18—Dessie Bey will host the Book Release and Stage Reading of “Know Thyself: An African American Poetic Journey” from 7-9 p.m. at Point Park University, Ballroom, 201 Wood St., Downtown. Local poets and Point Park students will lend their voices to read poetry by well-known, recognized and local poets. There will also be a performance of a stage play written by Shabaka Perkins as well as an appearance by the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Male Chorus, vocalists Jacquea Mae and Sydnie Dané, and saxophone interludes by James “Doc” Wilson. Black History Month Program
    FEB. 20—The McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center will host its annual Black History Month Program at 2 p.m. at 1832 Arboretum Dr., McKeesport. The theme is “From Spirituals to Jazz: From Folk Art to High Art.” Noted artist, musician, lecturer and teacher, Elizabeth “Betty” Asche Douglas will trace the evolution of the signature African American musical contribution from their origins to their present.
