Since Chuck Powell retired in October, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh has been without a director to oversee the authority’s outreach to minority contractors and developers and to monitor contract compliance with minority participation goals.
During its Feb. 11 board meeting, the authority moved to see what it needs to create a responsive Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprise office when directors voted unanimously to hire a consultant to redesign its racial equity protocols.
“This restructuring will introduce new policies that reflect the evolution of Minority and Women Business Enterprise and compliance programs that are taking shape nationally,” said Executive Director Robert Rubinstein. “The ultimate goal is to ensure there is equity in contracting opportunities with the URA.”
