Kalamazoo, Mich. — While people mourn for the families of the shooting victims, citizens in America are outraged that a mass shooting in a western Michigan town is receiving scant media attention in comparison to the incessant coverage given to the political primaries in Nevada and South Carolina, according to the responses on social media.
A white male was taken alive and unharmed after he allegedly committed the horrific crime of shooting and killing seven people, seriously injuring another, during a random shooting spree Kalamazoo County, Mich., authorities said.
The individuals were shot in three locations Saturday, The New York Times reports.
“What it looks like is we have someone just driving around, finding people and shooting them dead in their tracks,” Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told WOOD-TV.
“This is your worst nightmare, when you have somebody just driving around randomly killing people.”
The suspect — a 45-year-old white male — was taken into custody without incident in downtown Kalamazoo, CNN reported.
Authorities recovered a weapon from the suspect’s car, he said.
Social media is afire with how this man was taken alive and unharmed compared to the way unarmed black men are shot and killed and Muslims are treated. Take a look:
How is it that police can apprehend a white mass murder, but can't deal with an unarmed black man without killing him? #KalamazooShooting

.@CNN you are an embarrassment. Extended coverage of election & a cursory mention of the in-progress mass shooting. #priorities #Kalamazoo

@CNN, EXPLAIN WHY IT’S MORE IMPORTANT TO COVER 2ND & 3RD PLACE FINISHERS IN SC THAN THE HORRIFYING STORY COMING OUT OF #KALAMAZOO. #SMH
