Book tackles issues of race, racism through personal experience.
Personal antidotes, numbers, theory and professional jargon are combined in a compelling way to talk about the often touchy subject of race in Larry E. Davis’ book “Why Are They Angry With Us? Essays on Race.”
The eight-chapter, 134-page tome addresses the questions and conflicts about race in America that have plagued our country from the days of Jim Crow through the battle for Civil Rights and today. The collection relates racial incidents and observations to address the deep misunderstandings our country holds about race and attempts to explain the workings of race and racism in America. The essays attack the core of many commonly held attitudes, which contribute to racism in America.

“I wrote it in a way so people can know why things happened and why the world works the way that it does,” said Davis. “I wanted the average person to read it. I wanted women’s groups to read it. It’s a bit of a hybrid because it’s a little academic because it has theories in it and at the same time it’s written in first person and tells stories.”
