PITTSBURGH (AP) _ About 12,000 Pittsburgh-area have to find a different way to get around for about the next six months.
That’s because the Port Authority of Allegheny County on Monday shut down its Red Line light rail route for track repairs.
The line runs from Pittsburgh’s South Hills suburbs to the city’s North Shore, where stops serve the city’s sports stadiums and casino.
The line has been repaired 22 times since 2008 to keep it running and now wholesale fixes are required on its tracks and the paving of Broadway Street in Beechview, a Pittsburgh neighborhood the line runs through.
Extra buses and a rail shuttle that will connect riders with the light-rail train’s blue line will handle the displaced commuters.
