GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A suburban Atlanta man is behind bars and charged with murder after shooting his step-daughter following an argument about the tardiness of their tax returns.
Byron Winborne, 43, was reportedly in an argument with the daughter, Kysha Johnson, 26, while Johnson’s mother, two teenage boys and two young children were in the domicile. According to 11 Alive, Winborne was anxious to get his hands on the money because he intended to leave his wife, and he was convinced that Johnson was deliberately delaying the process or trying to prevent him from leaving, Sometime during the argument, Winborn pulled out a firearm and and fired a shot at Johnson while she was holding her baby, mortally wounding her.
Winborne, quickly realizing the tragedy he perpetrated, immediately ran from the house and went into hiding, but not for long. Authorities executed a search of the perimeter around the house and located Winborn trying to camouflage himself amid the background in an adjacent subdivision and took him into custody without incident.
He is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault and has been denied bond.
Johnson was rushed to a nearby medical facility where she was pronounced dead.
