“Empire” is American television most explosive and anticipated juggernaut. But there is one person who can do without it.
Jussie Smollett, according to reports, is leaving the can’t-miss gold mine of a television drama for other pursuits.
Smollett hinted at his departure via Twitter after his character was shot and rushed into surgery in Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s smash hit family drama.
By Thursday, more than 2,000 fans had retweeted the message as Twitter users asked what it signaled for his character Jamal’s future. Smollett has been one of the show’s biggest and most intriguing stars since “Empire” debuted in 2015, playing Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious Lyon’s (Terrence Howard) gay son who became an industry superstar.
The actor has remained mum after sending out the tweet, and a rep for Smollett and Fox have not yet responded to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.
