HAPPY BIRTHDAY—Dr. Joyce Meggerson-Moore of the New Horizon Theater, Inc. is brought to the stage and the Dramatics sing happy birthday to her.

The Dramatics started in 1964 in Detroit. They were inducted into the R & B Hall of Fame in 2013.
“It’s good to be back in Pittsburgh,” we’ve been trying to get here for quite a while,” explained Willie Ford, the last living original member of the group during the 50-minute show. “We love to do what we do and we love to make you happy.”
The balladeers offered their condolences—via words not a mash-up of songs by the entertainers— to Prince, Natalie Cole, Percy Sledge, Tupac Shakur’s mother and other musicians that have passed away this year.
“We are here to entertain you. “People take a seat and get ready for a treat because we’re ready to get on with the show,” the group sang in unison a cappella before launching into a full version of “In The Rain.”
Afterwards the group performed a medley of songs that they haven’t done in a while including “Welcome Back Home,” You’re the Best Thing in my Life,” “Be My Girl” and ended the show with “Get Up and Get Down.”
The Dramatics left the stage with the audience begging for more. As an encore the group returned to the stage and brought a female audience member on stage to dance with them while the Dramatics Experience Band played an extended run of “Get Up and Get Down.” Sadly, the group didn’t perform the beautiful ballad “Victoria,” which was released last year.
“It felt good to go down memory lane tonight. I just wished they had performed longer. The show started late but the music and singing was great and I could’ve listened to it all night,” said Clairton resident and concert attendee Rhonda Cook.
Following the show, New Horizon’s committee-level members were treated to a meet-and-greet session with the group and some of the band though the meet and greet session was very brief—many of the members of the Dramatics seemed to be in a hurry—the audience left with the Dramatics’ classic songs on their lips and smile on their faces that won’t soon fade away.
