Review: How I literally fell for Beyoncé

Moments before Beyoncé hit the stage at Heinz Field last Tuesday, I hit the floor– literally!  Anxious to see the Queen Bey again was the least of my worries when I found out that there were two bathroom options for patrons with floor seats. You could choose from a series of ghastly portable bathrooms or walk up two flights of steps for a proper lavatory.

At 32 weeks pregnant, the journey was endless.  Fatigued and tired, I made my way back to my seat and fell coming down my last set of steps. Beyoncé didn’t hit the stage yet so I had two options; either seek medical attention immediately or bare the pain to catch a just one more glimpse of Mrs. Carter herself.

The decision was clear.  Although irresponsible, I stayed for one of the best concerts Pittsburgh has ever seen.  Yoncé throwbacks intertwined with cool sips from her “lemonade” made the pain unrecognizable.

Performing several hits off of her successful visual album “Lemonade”, Beyoncé, 34, is unstoppable and clearly on a continual victory train. Her Pittsburgh fans salivated over her every dance move and lyric.  This tour marks another triumph on her resume.

Jumping from stage to stage, interacting with the audience, and performing for 2.5 hours straight, the original Destiny’s Child member radiates the uttermost stage presence. She kicked off the Formation Tour with just that “Formation” and ended with a star-studded performance of “Halo”. The in-between was just as incredible.

While she hit all other marks, I am surprised that she did not perform the iconic women’s anthem, “Single Ladies”, and “6 Inch”.  Those songs seem to be fan favorites.  But, what she did not perform was well made up for in every other performance.  She was the definition of slay.

The track list from “Lemonade” had an upbeat flow.  She performed songs like “Sorry”, “Daddy Lessons”, “Hold Up”, and “All Night”.  But, an emotional highlight was when the crowd was prompted to serenade her with one of my favorites, “Love on Top.”

Uh, Jermaine Dupri.  He wasted the trip to Pittsburgh. If he was not going to go on stage directly before Beyoncé, then I am not quite sure the purpose he served. I imagined that he would have went hard, brought out Da Brat and Lil Bow Wow, and reminded us of the So So Def era.  Instead, we got a brief hip hop mix and some prerecorded messages.

In case you are wondering, my left foot is fractured in two places. But, I have a magical story to tell the new baby about how mommy literally fell for Beyoncé.
