White Atlanta cop charged with murder for killing unarmed black man

In a development that radically defies the norm, especially in today’s times, a white Atlanta cop has been charged with the murder of anĀ unarmed black man after an internal investigation that revealed the officer’s life was never in danger when he shotĀ Deravis Rogers in the head while he was in a moving car.
Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard issued an arrest warrant for fired police officer James R. Burns, the former rookie cop,Ā resulting from theĀ June 22 shooting of Deravis Caine Rogers. He is facing charges of felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of his oath of office, according to a release by Howard.
It is also against the norm forĀ a district attorney in Georgia to seek an officerā€™s arrest in a police shooting case before the grand jury is able to dissect the evidence, but Howard said the investigation warranted the charges.
ā€œBy reason of the evidence presented by several eye-witnesses, videos, and the findings of the Atlanta Police Department, we will proceed in this case in the same manner as any other defendant similarly charged ā€” arrest, indictment and resolution,ā€ said Howard in a statement, according to the AJC.
