PHILADELPHIA — Opening night of the Democratic National Convention was teeming with elegance and electricity — and in the case of first lady Michelle Obama, an ample supply of both — as a cavalcade of celebrities and high-wattage dignitaries traipsed to the stage in defense of Hillary Clinton’s right to occupy the Oval Office.
The whole evening was a referendum on if the Democratic Party could provide the requisite political vaccine to heal the gaping emotional wounds in the massive Bernie Sanders camp after it was revealed in leaked emails that the head of the DNC actively worked against Sanders to ensure a Clinton victory.
That perplexity — along with the appearances of Sen. Corey Booker, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sarah Silverman, Eva Longoria, Paul Simon, Boyz II Men, Demi Lovato and Obama — made for great theater that audiences consumed with aplomb.
Take a look at some of the photographic highlights from Day 1 of the DNC in the City of Brotherly Love.
