It’s time I brush the cob webs off of my imaginary typewriter for the newest Jason Bourne flick. I haven’t written a film review since the April 21. This one is long overdue.
Don’t get your hopes up! “Jason Bourne” was not so spectacular that it brought me out of this maternity leave. Ironically, Matt Damon, who did not appear in “The Bourne Legacy” (2012), has finally returned as Jason Bourne and so I followed suit.
Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander also star in the fourth edition of this film series where Bourne resurfaces to expose some government agencies. Jason Bourne fans have waited almost a decade for his return. The only question is: Was it worth the wait?
I guess.
A lot of background questions about Jason Bourne are answered. As a result, this movie is probably the most bland Jason Bourne to date. While the audience get the meat and potatoes of his historical context, there leaves little room for that raw action we are all accustomed to.
The little action that did occur are crammed into long scenes. One scene in particular was a car chase that was two minutes too long. Let’s just say the “ewws” and “ahhs” are few and far between.
Matt Damon was great though. We needed his long-awaited return if this film series ever had a chance of redemption or success. The slow-paced, informational plot was a price to pay to get Jason Bourne back.
The film’s cliffhanger leaves a huge pool of suspense. I’m anxious to see the next series installment and equally excited to know Matt Damon might be back permanently.
