CARROLTON, Ga. – A man who left his twin daughters in the sweltering heat of his car outside their duplex in western Georgia, where the two eventually died, has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and other charges.
“We do believe they were left in the car for a period of time,” Carrollton police Capt. Chris Dobbs said, according to CNN.
Police now speculate strongly that alcohol a role in a father, Asa North, 24, leaving his twin daughters to die in a hot vehicle Thursday. He now faces two counts of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
Carrollton police told the media his 15-month-old twin daughters Ariel & Alaynah were found unresponsive after being left in a hot car on Tillman Drive. Officers said they got the call at about 6:30 p.m., and arrived at the complex to find neighbors trying to cool the girls down.
Dobbs said neighbors of the family in Carrollton called 911 on Thursday evening after hearing screaming and yelling.
When police arrived at a duplex, the twins were out of the car and in a kiddie pool, where their father was trying to revive them. Frantic neighbors tried to lower their body temperatures using ice packs, Dobbs said.
The toddlers, Ariel Roxanne North and Alaynah Maryanne North, were transported to the hospital but did not survive.
