When it comes to Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas’ hair, legendary baseball player Yogi Berra said it best when he uttered long ago, “It’s déjà vu all over again.” 
Can Twitter possibly be trampling on the tresses of Douglas again?!?
Yes, it is.
Black women, in particular, who are ceaselessly outraged about being dehumanized, sexualized and stereotyped by society, seemingly take pleasure in pummeling someone who routinely performs feats the average human being wouldn’t and couldn’t fathom executing. She has accomplished more in her 20 years on earth than many women will do in two lifetimes, yet the only thing they can see is something they’ve been harshly judged by for centuries and put dangerous and damaging chemicals in their hair to replicate the hair of people who have shown nothing but contempt for them.

The Internet was torn in half on those who preyed on Douglas for her alleged nappy hair and bad edges, and those who cannot believe that we are revisiting this issue four years after the London games where they eviscerated Douglas to pieces even as she did something no American gymnast had ever done in the history of the country.
