:10 It’s important that I get started with a profound and heartfelt acknowledgment to the courage demonstrated by the seven year old girl that found her mental and physically ill parents dead in bed and told her teacher she couldn’t wake her parents up. Even worse, the fact that this little angel got herself up, cleaned, dressed and off to school on her own at age seven . . . means she’s been there before!
:09 Hey Chuck Raiford, you read Overtime every week. For your team support, you’re now in The Locker Room. Read on my Brother . . . read on!
:08 Okay, your Pittsburgh Pirates are done. I mean really done. And now that your Steelers are in full swing and your Penguins have taken the ice, you’re satisfied. Well, don’t get satisfied and don’t get comfortable cause they start spring training in five months. And if they don’t get not one but two ace pitchers and a sure nuff reliever in that time, I’m gonna be writing you this message again next October.
:07 If any of my loyal readers know Darrin Walls, the great basketball player out of Peabody H.S. and Waynesburg College, please ask him to call me ASAP. He’s being inducted in the City League Hall of Fame this year and we can’t find him. (Bill Neal – 412-628-4856).
:06 Speaking of the City League, I know all you Savoy Pittsburgh City League historians are aware that Brandon Marshall is the son of Fred Marshall, the former great Westinghouse H.S. quarterback, just a reminder for those who don’t know. Brandon comes by his skills legitimately . . . Fred Marshall was a bad man on the field, and not just football. He could do it all.
:05 I want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank important people, Ms. Yasmine Shaheed of the Pittsburgh Housing Authority and Ms. Marsha Tongel of UPMC. Two very special people working day to day in the Pittsburgh community to help make Pittsburgh one of the nation’s most livable cities. Thanks ladies for all you do. “Greatness Lies Within You!”
:04 If you haven’t seen the 30/30 series on Archie Manning titled “The Book of Manning,” get your hands on it. First of all, Archie Manning was an absolute beast at “Ole Miss.” Oldest son Cooper went to “Ole Miss,” but fell victim to a rare disease and was considered the best athlete of them all. Peyton goes to Tennessee and the rest is history and Eli is still writing the story. Quite an amazing family. (Oh, and for the record, mom was Ole Miss Homecoming Queen.)
:03 Here at long last are the final inductees for the 2016 Pittsburgh City League High School All-Sports Hall of Fame Inductees. After over 300 nominees, these are the best of the best in City League History for 2016
