The last Special Edition for a long time I promise…Maybe?
:10—First of all, a huge, enormous, gigantic thank you to The Pittsburgh City League family. You outdid yourselves this time, but once again and as always, you showed up. Thank you!
:09—Major apologies to our very special guests and awardees, Mr. Bryant Salter, Mr. Ray Zellers, Mr. Mike Barnes and Mr. Keith Key. Plain and simple, we were short-handed by the massive crowd, but as a player and a coach, I never accepted excuses and I make none here. My fault, my bad, my responsibility. Lesson learned and we will make it better. I did not present you well given your status and accomplishments and I hope you can give us another chance to do a better job.
:08—Apologies as well to Coach Kirk Bruce. I misspoke in my comments concerning what you said to me about Sam Clancy. The correction is you told me to not worry about speaking out about his uniform retirement. You did not in any way speak out against it.
:07—Savoy…you outdid yourself. Great food, plenty of food, delivery way on time and out of 698 people, not one complaint.
:06—“16” high school students from our City League schools were honored. All great athletes and 4.0 grade average students were honored by the great Mike Logan and represented our school system well.
:05—The legend Orin Richberg flew in from New Mexico, Ron Carter flew in from Chicago and Lenny Morant flew in from Atlanta. Thank you men.
:04—The 1976 Fifth Avenue state championship team. You showed up and in a blaze of glory. Thank you for coming. Thank you for your energy and thanks for the memory.
:03—To the families of the deceased inductees. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
:02—The H.O.F. Committee, the Achieving Greatness staff and all our volunteers, thank you and God Bless you for a job well done.
:01—KDKA super star Bob Allen, thank you for your patience and please excuse me for stepping on your toes all night.
:00—Last, but certainly not least, a much appreciated thank you to our sponsors, A Second Chance, Highmark, Judge Dwayne Woodruff, UPMC, Pittsburgh Board of Education, Mayor’s office, City Council members Dan Gilman, Darlene Harris and Daniel LaValle, Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald, and District Attorney’s office Stephen Zappala. And a very special thank you to Triangle Tech and the John Heinz History Center.
