PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Jackie Evancho, a 16-year-old singer from the Pittsburgh suburbs, has been chosen to sing the national anthem at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Evancho, who became known when she made runner-up on “America’s Got Talent” in 2010, announced the event Wednesday on NBC’s “Today” show. She said: “I’m so excited; it’s going to be awesome.”
Trump’s inauguration committee spokesman calls Evancho a “true role model and inspiration for people young and old in our country and around the globe.”
Evancho met Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida shortly after her appearance on “America’s Got Talent” and posted the picture on her Facebook page.
