Denise Raiford says she can’t believe it has been eight years since the first Butterfly Wishes Fashion Show. It began as an honor to her mother Arlene B. Keith and others who have lost their mothers. The show celebrates and honors mothers during the month of Mother’s Day.
On May 6, at the Doubletree Monroeville Convention Center, over 300 attended the annual fashion show and dinner with the theme, “New Beginnings.” With Lesely Crawford as commentator, guests enjoyed the Sankofa Village for the Arts Drum and Dance group, Trini L. Massie & Friends and a multi-scene fashion show featuring the Butterfly Wishes Models. This group of mature models enjoys walking the catwalk in great looks from Mo’Reese Clothing and Accessories, Remo Men’s Fashions and Butterfly Wishes Jewelry. Other scenes included beautiful African fashions, After Five and a colorful finale.
The 2017 Butterfly Wishes Models: Edward Raiford, Denisha Crawford, Kenya Owens, Elizabeth Hillard, Charles Pollard, Cynthia Davison, Hazel Jackson, Mary Etta Johnson, Richard Warren, Curby Davison, Monica Jackson, Lori Brown and Akita Milbourne.
Raiford says her organization gives back to another organization that has made a difference in the community. This year, a portion of the proceeds will help send children to Promise Camp. Plans are in the works for next year’s show scheduled for the first Saturday in May, 2018.
