Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Emmai Alaquiva received the 2017 Telly Award for best general documentary at a reception and ceremony at the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, June 20. Alaquiva received the award for his documentary, “Ghetto Steps,” which was shot in Poland, and detailed the Holocaust. “A lot of people don’t realize that the word ‘Ghetto’ was created by German Nazis to describe the concentration camps of where Jewish people would reside,” Alaquiva told the New Pittsburgh Courier. “They very strategically manufactured Jewish people…and this documentary is dedicated to how Jewish people are so resilient.”
Alaquiva said the documentary is available to watch on YouTube, by searching “Classrooms without Borders 2016 Emmai Alaquiva” or at classroomswithoutborders.org, search videos.
