The sale rack first (July 12, 2017)

DEBBIE NORRELL

Anybody that is a hardcore shopper knows that you shop the sale rack first in any store. That is where you find the best bargains. Last weekend, Big Lots had a two-day, 20 percent off sale. I guess for some it was one day. In order to get the discount on both Saturday and Sunday you had to have a rewards card. It was a good time to stock up on paper towels, toilet paper and water. While I was in the line waiting to check out, the young lady in front of me was buying a box of Betty Crocker pre-made brownies for five cents. She was very young and asked me since the brownies were due to expire in one day if should she buy them. There were only two boxes left and I said, for 10 cents why not. If there had been any left I would have tried them myself. She said she had a car full of kids and she was going to give them the brownies and order some pizza.
After I left Big Lots I went to Monroeville Mall and was walking past Things Remembered and noticed a sign that said 90 percent off. Now 90 percent off is a sale. It was only one table, but worth taking a look. I found some very nice leather items to add to my gift drawer. It isn’t too early to start shopping for Christmas items or birthday gifts. Even though this is July it is considered the end of the summer season as far as clothing. I saw quite a few signs that said 50 percent off and higher. There is still a lot of warm weather ahead and you will get great use out of your bargains. Markdowns on patio furniture are already starting to appear. This is the time to buy. I was trying to find a new patio rug and they are already sold out for the most part. I may have to go online and find one.
